This is a tutorial on how to make a great looking Iron Shield from Skyrim with just a few basic materials. You need a sheet of foam, a sheet of cardboard, some rope and a few other basics. I give you the template which makes it a lot easier. You print up the template and put together the pieces to make the shield.

Materials needed for this tutorial:

• The template
• 1 sheet of foamboard or cardboard at least 22 inches in each dimension (width, length) Although, you can tape together pieces if needed
• 1 sheet of 1 inch thick foam that is at least 22 inches by 22 inches.
• 8 bottle caps
• Paint, silver, brown black, white - silver is optional, you can use gray instead
• Toos include a sharp hobby knife, a rasp, a file, sandpaper or a belt sander

Cut out the nine pieces of the template and tape them together as shown in the picture below:

Lay the template on your sheet of foam and trace the whole pattern.

Ok! It looks great. Now don't go cutting into that all right away. It can be a bit frail once it is cut so I will walk you through the steps of turning this into the iron part of the shield.

The first thing we are going to do is carve out the dome in the center of the shield. think of it as being a bowl placed upside down right there over that whole center section. It is highest right in the middle and shallower around the edge.

Notice how we start the carving of the dome about a half inch in from the pattern. The next picture shows you what I mean by this.

The orange lines show you what I mean by about half an inch in. That is where you start carving the dome. There is no line on the template for this. You can draw the line in if you like.

Continue carving the dome and once you got it to a nice shape you can add the beaten metal hammer marks.

You can use the end of a flat file to create the random hammer and battle marks on the dome. Just randomize them all over.

Ok, the dome is done and it looks great. Let's continue making this part of the shield.
