In this part of the tutorial I show you the technique of making a box out of foamboard. This is for the guard of the sword.

Lay your sword on the sheet of foamboard and draw out the guard box shape like this. When you do this you can know the size box you will want to make. Adjust the size of this drawing until it looks the way you want it. Now you can use this drawing as a template for making the box.

Now draw out the box like this. It is six sides.

Next cut grooves in all the lines. You are not cutting all the way through. Just cut through the top layer of paper and the foam. Don't cut deep enough to cut the bottom layer of paper.

You are cutting V shaped grooves. This is so you can bend it into a box shape.

With the V shaped grooves you can bend 90 degree angles to make the box/guard.

Be sure to angle all the edges including the ones around the outer edges. This way the whole thing will fold up into a box.

Apply glue and fold it into a box.

Then measure and cut out slots both in the top and bottom.

SLots just big enough so it can slide over the handle.

Then slide it in place and glue it.

And that's it. The guardbox is complete. Let's continue
