Braddock Carnegie Library

It is an interesting building that has been referred to as being built in an "Eclectic Medieval Style".

It is located in the city of Braddock which is in the far western part of Pennsylvania. It is an eastern subub of Pittsburgh.

There is a wonderful story behind this building.

In the 1970's the building was closed due to disrepair. It was falling apart, and in particular the roof. There were no funds to repair it. A group of local citizens and residents purchased the building for one dollar and restored it. It is now a library and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Andrew Carnegie funded the construction of over 2,000 libraries all over the world. This one outside of Pittsburgh was the first to be built in the United States and Carnegie himself attended the opening ceremony.

The hexagoanal tower is magnificent!

The statue is called "Winged Victory". It is a later addition to the building and is a WWI Memorial.
