Curwood Castle is located in Owosso Michigan. It was built as the fulfillment of a childhood fantasy by adventure writer and novelist James Oliver Curwood.

Curwood (1878-1927) was a wildly popular writer in his time and many of his novels and stories had been turned into movies. But now he has fallen from the public eye and is relatively unknown.

The day I was at this castle they were having a festival on the grounds which was quite wonderful. There were lots of tents, food, activities and even a couple of authors. It was a fun day.

Here, in an upstairs area of one of the towers is his writing room.

At least nineteen movies were made that are directly attributable to his writing. The most famous of which is probably this movie "The Bear" which came out in the 80's.

In the 1920's and 30's many movies were made from his work and Curwood has a very extensive listing on the IMDB.
