Medieval America | Old World Cobble

This is a series of videos, essays and webpages where Will travels all around America visiting Medieval themed places like castles, meaderies, stone masons and blacksmiths.

This installment of the series also comes with a video at the bottom of the page.

The first few days for me are a day of relaxation. I am simply unwinding and preparing myself for the big change in my life and how I live. At least for this summer it is a big change.

I was checking out maps and found a seafood place not far from my motel and I decided to check it out. (Dicky's Clam Shack)

Dicky's Clam Shack

It was good. I love seafood. But the thing I really wanted to talk a about is a strange coincidence. While driving to the place I saw a road sign for some kind of a business. The road sign read "Old World Cobble". It piqued my interest and I decided to return to investigate either that day or the next day.

Old World Cobble

Well, the next day I drove down that road.

And I discovered that it was a place that specialized in cobblestones and stone work. Look at that! They supply all kinds of stone including domestic field stone from New England and they import all kinds of stone from Europe. More ...

Lots of Cobblestones

Lots of Cobblestones

It's just the strangest thing that I am adventuring out all across America in my quest to see castles and in how to figure out how to build my own castle. And, I may be coming right back to within a few miles of where I started in order to get the stone for the castle.

Is there a beautiful message in this? Is this a great case of synchronicity?

It reminds me of the Novel "The Alchemist" by Paolo Coelho where in order to find the answer our hero has to return home.

Continue on to the next stop in the adventure

I have the first version of this castle done. It is an eight page pdf which includes the base sheet that you assemble it on. There are not yet any instructions to go with it. But you should be able to put it together relatively easily. I recommend you print it up onto some kind of index card or card stock. 90 pound paper is the best. Download it here: Merry Mead Castle Paper booklet

(If you need 90 pound paper it is available on amazon right here)
