Miniature trees are wonderful and you can buy them but they are expensive. The smallest ones are more than a dollar each and the larger ones can be up to ten dollars a tree! We can however make great looking trees at no cost. For this tutorial all you need is a brown paper bag, a green sponge and some white glue. And that's it. This is an inexpensive way to make some great looking trees. I also have a video tutorial for this project at the bottom of the page. |

Tools and Materials
Just with these simple supplies the options are unlimited. You can create just about any type of tree imaginable. Here are the seven trees I make for the video tutorial.
Page Start by cutting a rectangle from the paper bag. Our rectangle is about 1 1/2 inches by 2 inches. This will give you a certain size tree. You can experiment with the size depending on the size tree you want to make.
Make two cuts in it like this. That bottom part where there are no cuts will be the trun. The top three sections will be branches.
Start by twisting the trunk and the center main branch like this. You simply crush and twist the paper.
Then twist the branches. Leave the excess paper on the ends for now. Shape and bend the branches into a nice tree-like shape.
Let's coat and harden the tree. Mix white glue and water 50/50.
And cover the tree with the glue. Give it a nice soaking all the way around.
Now set it aside to let it dry.
Once it is dried we can apply the foliage.
