Think of plaster cloth as much like paper mache. But it is much stronger and it is easier to use. It comes in rolls. You cut a piece off the roll and dip it in water. Then you wipe off the excess water and apply the plaster cloth. It will dry into a hardened shape. |
How to use itThink of plaster cloth as a hardening shell that you put on something. In the case of a doctor it is put on your arm and it hardens. In our case we want to make some kind of arts and crafts project that is hard and durable.
Let's take a look at a project that uses Plaster Cloth. This is the wizard's globe. The outer rings are wood and foam. But the globe is made with plaster cloth. (this wizard's globe project is here)
I needed a globe that is a strong shell so it could support the weight of itself and of the terrain features I put on it. Plaster cloth is perfect for this because it is light and strong.
You cut off a piece of plaster cloth and dip it in water. This activates the plaster.
You then apply it to your object.
And an important thing to note is that you apply overlapping pieces to your object. This gives it strength.
You let it dry and it is ready. From here it can be sanded, painted, primed added to and more.
