Here is the design that I chose for my window. It was an easy choice for me. This is an actual 100 year old window that depicts a knight's templar on a pilgrimage. He is praying.

I printed it up full size. This is important! And then I took it through two different stages. In the center you can see that I printed it up in black and white. This is useful for looking at and understanding the layout and design. Finally, the one on the left shows just the pieces of glass and the lead came. We need this, in full size, to use as a template. We will actually build our window right on top of this template.

Free Patterns Online

If you don't already have a pattern you can find a free pattern online. I have bought a lot of beautiful stained glass sheets from a company called Delphi. They have free patterns you can download and use. I don't have any kind of relationship with this company and don't make any kind of money from this link. Here it is. Lucent Glass is another glass company. They seem to be really great. I have never purchased anything from them. They do have a whole bunch of free templates for stained glass here: Lucent Stained Glass Patterns for free download

There are lots of free patterns online. Use a search engine to find them. And... you can also get them on Pinterest and Etsy.

If you need help selecting a template I have a suggestion for you. This is a nice project from the free templates at Delphi

There are seventeen pieces of glass and it is mostly straight cuts but there are a few simple curves. This is a nice project that will teach you a lot. Download the free template on the Delphi website right here: Tulip Template

Note about the template: If you are making a larger project with lots of pieces you should print up more than one copy of your template. Through the work process you will need to replace your template. It will fade and get messed up for various reasons.
