This is part 2 of my writing about a cruise I took to the beautiful island of Bermuda. In the first part I talk about the cruise and the cruise ship itself. You can visit that part here. On this page we take a look at the island of Bermuda itself. Here are the main areas I cover with Bermuda:

This map shows you the Island of Bermuda. It astonishes me how it looks an awful lot like a fish hook! During my stay on the island I visited three main spots: The Cruise port, the city of Hamilton and the city of St. George. I will tell you more about them. About the cruise port: This is where the cruise ships anchor. It is a small and pretty town with lots to do. It is very tourist oriented. Well pretty much all tourist oriented! And there are lots of restaurants, shopping outlets and typical Bermuda style things to see and do including some nice garden parks, the governors mansion which is a museum, a special dolphin pool, and an old fort that you can roam around. About Hamilton: This is the biggest settlement on the island. And it is a real city where people live complete with apartment buildings, office buildings and all you would expect in a city. But, it also has, along the waterline, a lot of tourist oriented stuff. Hamilton also has a couple of beautiful cathedrals. (I visited both these cathedrals and have pictures). About St. George - This is a spectacular smaller city that is all tourist oriented. It also has a beautiful Bermuda island feel to it. Just walking around this beautiful town is a treat and you can see things like museums, the church and the unfinished church. Plenty of shopping and restaurants. If you are picturing a semi-caribbean like town then St. George is what you are picturing. Getting Around Bermuda - There are a lot of options including a regular bus system that covers the whole island from end to end. It also has a ferry system that take trips between these three different main points several times a day. This is the easiest and fastest option for you. You can also rent a small car or electric scooters. On my full day I started with the first ferry in the morning from the cruise port to St. George. I spent half the day there. Then I took a bus to Hamilton where I spent the remainder of the day. Finally in the early evening I took the ferry from Hamilton and returned to the cruise ship at the cruise port. I am not a beach/island kind of person. I didn't visit any of the beaches! But, Bermuda is famous for it's beautiful beaches; some of which are made up of a faint tinge pink sand. If you are looking for beaches you will not be disappointed. More for my style is the museums, the architecture, and the very moderate weather. Let's Look around the Cruise Port TownHere is a picture of part of the cruise port. I took this picture from the top deck of my cruise ship. There is lots more to this town off camera to the left. This next picture is to the left of the picture above. You can see more of the cruise port. That building with the two clock towers is the central hub of the town. Lots of tourist stuff and shopping there. One more picture of the cruise port. This one is still me on the cruise ship but now looking to the far right. And docked right behind my cruise ship is another cruise ship.
One of the tourist attractions at the port is this Calico Jacks pirate ship. It is a restaurant and bar.
Here is a look inside that clock tower building. Lots of shopping in here.
Let's continue and take a look around my favorite Bermuda city: St. George |
