Will takes a cruise from Boston to Bermuda

This is my second cruise. And this one was also pretty good. It was an easy 7 day cruise from Boston to Bermuda. And it was aboard a Norwegian cruise line ship named "The Breakaway".

I will tell you a bit about cruising, my experience and I will show you some pictures I took while exploring Bermuda.

This page is all about the cruise in General

Here is the trip we took. The cruise ship left on a Sunday and went directly to Bermuda. And we returned back to Boston on the following Sunday.

Here is the cruise ship I was on. It is the Norwegian Cruise Lines Breakaway.

Here is the itinerary of the cruise:

Day 1 - Boston, Massachusetts – Embarkation
Day 2 - At Sea
Day 3 - Royal Naval Dockyard, Bermuda
Located at the tip of Bermuda's West End, Royal Naval Dockyard is home to exceptional shopping and pristine beaches. The beautifully restored Royal Navy Dockyards provide quaint boutique, a crafts market and fascinating maritime museum. Don't miss the chance to try out one of the many water sports offered in and around this gorgeous harbor.
Day 4 - Royal Naval Dockyard, Bermuda
All NCL cruises to the Bahamas feature a whole day visit to Great Stirrup Cay, the idyllic island paradise reserved just for our guests. Stroll along soft, white-sand beaches and enjoy the many activities we have to offer. Snorkel and see underwater delights, kayak in crystal-clear water, then get revved up on a WaveRunner® adventure. The fun is endless here.
Day 5 -Royal Naval Dockyard, Bermuda
From the waterfront to the end of Bay Street, you'll find some of the best duty-free shopping and a charming mix of architecture, both old and new. But there's plenty to do besides shopping - swim with the dolphins, try your luck in a casino or snorkel with colorful fish.
Day 6 - At Sea
Day 7 - At Sea
Day 8 - Boston, Massachusetts - Disembark
Welcome to an American city where history truly does come to life. Be sure to visit Bunker Hill Monument, Paul Revere's House, the Old North Church, Quincy Market and the mansions of Beacon Hill. Then wander Boston Common, the oldest public park in the U.S.

In Summary there is about four days at sea on the cruise ship and in Bermuda we have a half day, a full day, and then a half day before departing.

The cruise ship experience

When you travel by car, airplane or other means of transportation the vast majority of your trip is spent at the destination. With a cruise ship you get the interesting and new experience of the ship itself. So, your adventure/trip is two in one. You get the cruise ship experience and you get the destination experience. I will tell you a little bit about both of these experiences.

Getting to the cruise ship is a factor you have to consider. One of the things I like about this particular cruise to Bermuda is that it leaves out of Boston and returns to Boston. I live about an hour from Boston so this part of the vacation is easy for me.

Here is the cruise port in Boston. Our cruisers are waiting to board the ship. There are several thousand people going on this trip. I think the number is around 4,000.

And here is the ship. In this picture it is docked in Bermuda.

The cruise line knows what it is doing. There are lots of things to do on a cruise. Here are some options you have:

  • Shopping, of course - and there is a definite slant toward the higher end products like designer purses and upper range watches and jewelry.
  • An art auction every day - I like the art auctions. On this cruise I attended two auctions but didn't buy anything.
  • Entertainment and shows - There are all kinds of entertainment from comedians to cover bands, and a variety of musical styles. There are also a couple of piano bars on the ship.
  • Casino gambling which includes all kinds of things like slot machines, roulette and blackjack tables.
  • A vareity of learning/doing workshops including Origami, wine and cheese tasting and more.
  • And of course there is the dining - Of which you have lots of options. You can eat casually in the buffet which is quite extensive. As an example of how extensive it is on this cruise that had a different cheese layout every day. If you are interested in cheese I have pictures and writing on this cruise cheese right here

So, You can find lots to do on the cruise ship and everyday you get a schedule of the various events that are going on throughout the day.

Let's look at some pictures

Here is the room I stayed in. It is very modest. On the left, just off camera is the closet and the bathroom with shower.

Here is a small representation of the buffet. It is enormous. What you see here is only about one-twentieth of the whole buffet. It goes in a large square all the way around.

The hours it is open are very generous and it is three times a day with of course the menu changing depending on which meal it is.

A small section of the casino with slot machines and poker tables.

And the cruise ship has multiple decks (floors) and many of the floors have all kinds of activities to do like I had mentioned.

And you have the top deck of the ship where there is plenty of places to sit, or sun bathe or have a drink at the bars.
