The Bermuda Quest for a fish sandwich

It sounds like an odd thing - to be on a quest for a "Fish Sandwich"! But it's true. I was on a quest to eat a Fish Sandwich.

Experiencing the food of Bermuda was one of my goals along with the churches and cathedrals.

I talked to a lot of people on the cruise ship about the food of Bermuda and of coarse the seafood came up. And top of that list was something called a "Fish Sandwich".

But the reason why it came up is because it is made with raisin bread.
And I got various responses to this including lots of people who weren't going to try the fish sandwich because of the oddity of raisin bread.

Here are the main areas I cover with Bermuda:

Here is a picture of a Pub/restaurant in Saint George. It is the WhiteHorse Pub. And it's been around for hundreds of years. But note....

Here is the sign on the left side of the building.

When I was walking by this pub the timing was wrong so I didn't go in. It was too early in the morning. But later in the day, around lunch time I did find another restaurant and I did have a fish sandwich on raisin bread. Here are some pictures:

Was it good? YES! It was great.

And what about the raisin bread? It was nice and thick and lightly grilled. And the raisins were very sparse. Not a whole lot of raisins. This means that sparsely I got a wonderful sweet flavor from a raisin.

You wouldn't think that raisin bread is a good match for a fish sandwich but it is! At least this particular raisin bread is.

While on the island I also got to experience some other seafood including shrimp in a nice spicy sauce similar to a mozambique and a pretty standard Fish and chips. It was all good!
