PVC is an amazing plastic like material. It is readily available and cheap. You can get it any hardware store or home improvement store. And it is pretty easy to work with.

You can even bend it and shape it if you have a heat gun.

A Note From Will: In this tutorial we use a heat gun to flatten out the blade of the sword. But.... If you don't have a heat gun it will be quite ok!! You can make the sword exactly as we make it. Just don't flatten out the blade! And you still have a great pvc sword!!!

Materials Needed:

• 1 - 24 inch length of pvc pipe (1 inch pvc)
• 1 - 11 inch length of pvc pipe (1 inch pvc)
• 2 - 5 1/2 lengths of pvc pipe (1 inch pvc)
• 1 X connector (1 inch pvc)
• 2 pvc end caps (1 inch pvc)
• Paint: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint, spray on (Black, and Silver) But you have options here
• Optional to wrap the handle: Some black leather or black cloth and some leather strips or lace
• Glue: Some kind of good glue for plastic, we used hot glue gun, works pretty good
• Tools: Hot Glue gun, hacksaw, Heat gun (If you want to flatten the blade)
• Aluminum foil: You should lay the foil out before using the heat gun to protect your work surface

PVC comes in lots of sizes with lots of different types of connector pieces. It is kind of like legos for plumbers! While you are picking up the parts for this project you might want to look through the other parts they have. And let the creativity flow. There are all kinds of swords you can make with pvc and in particular lots of different diameter tubes- big swords and little swords.

Let's Get Started!

Cut yourself four pieces of pvc. A hacksaw does the job very easily.

Cut these pieces. From left to right the four pvc pipe pieces we cut are

One 11 inch piece

Two 5.1/2 inch pieces

One 24 inch piece (in the picture it is already flattened. We will get to that next!)
