How to Make a Wizard's Table - Part 3 (Finishing it)

Let's finish the table by adding the ornament, the surface and the painting of it.

Part 1 of this tutorial is here

I want to carve a bas relief on the front of the table, on the leaf. So I removed it.

I carved the bas relief then reinstalled the leaf on the table.

Here is my full tutorial on how to carve the Medieval bas-relief

A bas relief is a flat sculpture that has some depth to it. I show you how to easily carve one in foam. I make a three panel triptych for a wizard's table. How to carve a medieval bas relief.

Next I color matched the color of the bas-relief and painted the rest of the table that same color.

Next I cut four square plywood pieces. These are for the top surface of the table. I don't want a foam top table. I want a surface that I can actually work on like a table or desk.

I applied liquid nails to the surface of the table then laid down the wood sheets.

Next I applied edging around the edge of the plywood. This makes it look better rather than have the raw edges of the plywood show.

Now I finish off the table by applying a light shaded stain and letting it dry (8 hours) Then I finished the project by applying a tung oil which will seal it, condition it and preserve it.

Look at that! Nice sized table, looks good and it actually works as a table!
