The template is ready for you to download right here: The template

I also have a video tutorial you can watch. It is at the bottom of the page.

This is a wonderful little storytelling project. It enables you to create and draw up a story then play it on your little rolling theatre. I give you just about everything you need including a blank script to write out your story and a blank storyboard so you can storyboard your story just like they do in Hollywood.

What you need to make this project:

  • 1 sheet of foamboard (you can use cardboard if you prefer) - Foamboard can be bought at dollar stores or walmart. Amazon has it here: (Elmer's Foam Board) (Get the size that is 20"x30")
  • White Glue or Glue gun: (Will's favorite Glue Gun is here)
  • An x-acto knife (Wills favorite is here)
  • A round pencil of any type or color (this will be the axle of the theatre
  • Printer paper to make the film strip in the theatre

Will's Tip on Cutting Foam board: Don't try to cut all the way through it in one swipe. Use a really sharp blade and make three passes. the first pass just cuts the top layer of paper. The second pass cuts the foam and the third pass cuts through the bottom layer of paper.

Let's Build it!

Print up the template and transfer the pattern of the parts onto a sheet of foamboard.

You can do this in a couple of different ways.

First you can place the sheet of template on your foamboard and trace over the lines with a blunt pencil. This will create an indent in the foamboard. Remove the template sheet and you can see the indents -draw them out.

Trace the parts

Alternatively, you can simply draw out the parts on the sheet of foamboard. I give you all the dimensions of each piece in the template. It's pretty easy to do. There are not a whole lot of parts.

The parts

Go ahead and cut those parts out.
