In this part of the tutorial we continue making the light dagger. Part 1 (the beginning) of this tutorial is here
|
Place the tube on foam board and trace it out.
Cut that piece out and glue it onto one end of the light dagger.
Now trace the other end of the tube and cut that piece out. Don't glue it onto the tube yet. Just set this piece aside for now.
Now let's make the blade of the dagger. Measure and draw out a piece of foam board that is two inches wide and ten inches long.
Try sliding that blade into the handle. Does it slide very easily and smoothly?
Let's take a look. With sand paper we will custom fit the blade so it slides very smoothly inside the handle. An important thing to note is that the handle has angles that the blade rubs against. So... sandpaper those edges on the blade. This will make a big difference.
Do some sandpapering if needed. Sandpaper the edges a little bit and try sliding the blade in the handle. Keep doing this, sandpaper/test, sandpaper/test until the blade slides cleanly and easily in and out of the handle.
