Make the Conan Sword Part 4: Wrapping the handle and finishing up

In this part of the tutorial we finish making the sword by wrapping the handle and sealing it all.

Let's wrap the handle. You can paint the handle portion a reddish-brown or you can wrap it with some kind of string. I opted to wrap it with this brown string.

Wrap the handle

Once the wrapping is done seal the handle with mod podge. This will keep it together and keep it strong. if you don't have mod podge that's ok. Seal it with a 50/50 mix of white glue and water.

Seal the handle with mod podge

Paint the edges of the ricasso black.

Paint the ricasso

This next picture shows how the ricasso edges painted.

Finish off the sword by applying a coat of mod podge to the whole thing, guard, pommel and blade - the whole sword.

Seal the whole sword with mod podge

And that's it. The sword is complete.

It's a two-handed sword so you grip it like this.

Grasp the handle with two hands

But it does have that ricasso so for more control you can shift one hand up and onto that ricasso.
