Make an Orcish Dagger from Skyrim
The Orcish Dagger is a very primitive looking dagger from Skyrim. And it is easy to make. I use some slightly different techniques for this project. But you have lots of options. If you don't have foam you can always do it with foamboard or cardboard.

You can buy the XPS foam at Home Depot or lowes. They also have it on amazon. I have selected it for you right here: XPS foam 1" thick
About the foam:
Take a trip to your local home improvement store and pick up a sheet of home insulation foam. The picture shows the sheet I got. It is 2 feet wide, 8 feet long and 1 inch thick. that 1 inch thick is important to remember because they often sell sheets that are 2 inches thick. You can use it but that extra thickness is not necessary.
It's very light and easy to work with. Have an employee of the store cut it in half for you so you can get it in the car.
Note that different companies make it in different colors. But they are all the same. It can be either pink, blue or green.
Lowes has it, called Green Guard. Here is a picture. It is one inch thick and two feet square. Here is a screen shot I took from their online store.
At home depot they sell the large sheets but they also have smaller ones that are one inch thick and two feet square. They call them project boards:
They sell the foam on Amazon but it is more expensive. So, use this option if you don't have easy access to a home improvement store. Watch for the sizes. YOu want the one inch thick stuff, and consider what size board you want. Mostly they sell it in one foot squares. Owens Corning foams on Amazon
Print up the template.
The piece labeled "B" is a guide to show you how long to cut your pvc pipe, dowel or broomstick. It is about 1 1/4 inches wide and 6 inches long.
Cut out Parts A and C from the template. Lay them on your one inch piece of foam and trace them.
Be sure to draw the internal blade edge line. This is useful for when you carve out the shape of the knife.
Now cut out the parts. I am using a hot wire foam cutter but you can use just about anything. Foam cuts pretty easily. An xacto knife or a hacksaw blade also work well.
Okay! Let's start carving.
Some of the tools you can use to carve out the shape of the dagger is knifes, sandpaper, a hacksaw blade and a rasp. The rasp works really well.
Finish off the shape with sand paper. I used 220 grit. But don't make the knife really smooth. You want it to be very raw, rough and orc-like.
And follow this same shaping and sanding process with the pommel.
The Hot Wire Foam Cutter has adjustable collars allowing for clean, accurate cuts in foam. Woodland Scenics recommends using only on SubTerrain white foam which emits no toxic fumes. Use only special nichrome replacement wire. The throat of the Hot Wire Foam Cutter is 4.5" wide by 5.5" deep. Input: 120VAC and Output: 9VAC, 1300mA.
