It is an interesting story as to how this project came about. I am making a copy of an actual 100 year old stained glass window. I came into my awareness more than ten years ago. And it returned to me recently - and with a very mysterious and unusual message for me.

In this tutorial I make the same window and to the same size.

This window, because of it's age, has an amazing patina and I can't duplicate that but it will be okay. I can make a widow that hopefully gives us the same sense of beauty.

We start this project by making a template for the window. It shows us what all the pieces are and how the whole window is assembled together.

I printed up a high resolution picture of the window and to the exact correct size. first I did it in color. This will be important later. And then I printed up a black and white version so I could create the template.

To make the template I used a light box with the black and white version.

If you want your own lightbox I have a tutorial showing you how to make one with some inexpensive parts and cardboard or foamboard. I love this lightbox and have used it many times for many projects.

Make a Light Box

A light box is a wonderful little thing. You can use it for tracing, drawing, and even reading x-rays. But they are very expensive to purchase. I have a nice tutorial here that shows you how to make a great one very cheap. It uses a string of LED's as the light source. How to make a light box
