This is a great multi discipline project where I teach you tips and techniques for making a foam diorama. But I have taken it to another level by also making a video game based on the diorama. In the game I have to get into the tower, get the wizards fire staff then battle the dragon. Kind of cool

New Project: A Dinosaur Diorama
August 31st, 2008 · No Comments

Here is my latest diorama Project. It is a dinosaur diorama. But it is not like any other diorama. It has moving parts that make it fun and make it a learning experience. The biggest thing about dinosaurs is the theory of extinction. This project shows the two main theories of extinction in action: A Meteor and a Super Volcano. Nice project that is active and a nice learning tool. I have included all the artwork for you to print out including a Dinosaur learning sheet and drawings of 6 different dinosaurs. The project is located here: The Active Dinosaur Diorama

Taking Star Photos without a Telescope
August 29th, 2008 · No Comments
Here is a nice project and tutorial I have just completed. It shows you how to take some nice star photos and star trail photos with just a 35mm camera. There are some tricks to know but it is not that hard. I give you tips and hints on how to do it and what film to use. You can get crisp star images with exposures up to around 30 seconds and sometimes more. And you can get good looking star trails when you leave the shutter open for 20 minutes or more. You can even do exposures of several hours. I have all the tips and guidelines in the tutorial: How to take great star photos and star trail pictures without using a telescope

New Book Review: A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. LeGuin
August 28th, 2008 · No Comments

I have made a strong commitment to revisit many of the Fantasy and Epic Fantasy series that I started reading many years ago. One of these is the Earthsea Cycle of books by Ursula K. LeGuin. It stands alongside the Lord of the Rings as one of the finest works (and worlds) in the genre. If you are looking for a fantasy series to read you should give this book a try. A Wizard of Earthsea is the first book in the Earthsea cycle and it is a masterpiece. I have a more complete review about it on my fantasy guide website: A Wizard of Earthsea Review

New Project Subject coming
August 18th, 2008 · No Comments
I have been wanting to do some projects with Remote Control (RC) Airplanes and seeing as summer is starting to fade I really need to get on it soon! I really don’t know much about model airplanes so I figured I would start out with a very simple airplane. I have ordered my first plane from amazon and it should arrive in a few days. I will keep you posted and show you the airplane nd whatever I learn from it.
My intention is for Model Airplanes to be another common subject that I cover on a regular basis.
Here is the Plane I purchased and it was 38 dollars so its a pretty cheap price point to learn a little bit about the hobby.

It has night lights which seems like a fun little addition. And everything is included which is nice. You can view it at amazon here:

You know, when I was a kid around 10 I used to go over a friends house and his dad has this big beautiful half built model airplane in the basement. I used to look at it all the time and I used to ask my friend to tell his dad I wanted to help finish it. He always said his dad didn’t want to work on it anymore. - Shame- As far as I know he never finished it. Anyhoo, it made a big impression on me and I vowed that when I was an adult I would make one of them myself -so today I begin the journey! Gonna be fun.

New Terrarium Project: The Upside Down Terrarium
August 14th, 2008 · No Comments
This is a neat, and peculiar little project. It is a terrarium in a one gallon jug that is upside down. It posed quite a challenge to get it so that everything was right and there was no soil on the glass. Read more about this project and find out the secret to how I did it. (I didn’t cut the glass!)
