How to Make a Leather Sword Sheath - Part 5: Making the Strap

In this part of the tutorial we make the leather strap so we can hang the sword on our belt.

Part 1 (the beginning) of this tutorial is here

You have a lot of options as to how you want to make a strap. You can make one large enough to fit around your waist, or to throw over your shoulder. We will make a small one so we can just quickly and easily strap it onto our belt or a belt hoop in our pants.

Mesure the leather

Measure and cut yourself a strap from the leather piece. We made our strap about an inch wide and twenty inches long.

Punch hole in strap

Wrap the end of the strap around the sheath so it is snug and put a series of holes in it so you can stitch it.

Mutiple holes

Something like this. Just a bunch of holes so you can lock stitch it.

Apply velcro

We want a quick and easy connect to go on our belt and we do this with two pieces of velcro like this.

Attach strap

So it can be folded over and velcroed closed. That's your hoop for your belt.

NextOk, The strap is done, let's do some detail work on the sheath
