Make a Dungeon Diorama Part 4: Painting the Dungeon Walls

In this part of the tutorial we finish off the dungeon walls with a neat painting technique.

Paint the walls black

Paint everything black including the details like the columns and frames around windows and doors. Then set it all aside to dry.

Add a layer of greyi paint

Then Brush on the grey paint. We are not doing a full paint. We are loosely brushing it on so it does about ninety percent coverage. We want some of the black to show through. Then set it all aside to dry.

Also paint the detail work

I also painted the detail work the same grey color.

Add white to the grey paint

Now we do the final step in the painting process. Add white paint to the grey you used so far. It is best to add white to the exact color you used in the previous step. This will give it a good lighting effect. It causes good highlights because it is the same color just lighter.

Dry off the brush

Now we are going to do a full dry brushing technique. Dip the brush in your paint and then wipe off most of the paint on a rag. You are drying off the brush. And you might want to experiment with this technique so you get the hang of it.

Lightly dry brush the wall

Lighly brush over the surface of the walls. The paint will be applied sparingly to the high textures on the wall.

The wall is done

Ok! The walls are complete. They look great. Let's assemble it.

Apply hot glue

Most glues will work on this. I used hot glue. Apply it.

Assemble the dungeon

And glue it all together. That's it! You have built a good looking miniature dungeon.
