This is a fun little project where you can make a tiny diorama scene inside an egg. You just need a few basic supplies. I make a chicken yard scene but for something like this you are only limited by your imagination. You can make just about any scene you can imagine.

Materials Needed:

• These materials are if you are going to make this scene inside. If you are doing a different scene then you would use other materials!
• 1 Jumbo Brown egg
• Mod Podge to seal the egg
• paint brush and x-acto knife
• A piece of foam to shape the ground
• A bit of wire to make the fence
• Some green grass texture material
• Brown, green, blue paint
• Chicken and chicken lady miniature figures (on amazon here: HO Scale Woman w/8 Chickens )

Let's cut a hole in the egg

This can be a bit of a tricky thing and I tried several methods. The easiest and most effective way was to use a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel. If you don't have a dremel you can still do it with an x-acto knife and masking tape.

Use a jumbo brown egg for this project. The bigger the egg the better and I think that brown eggs have thicker shells. Coat it in some kind of sealant before you start working on it. This will give it strength. I used Mod Podge.

Mark out the opening you want in your egg. You can use pencil or marker.

To cut the hole in the egg you have some options. A dremel with a cut off tool is the best and easiest. But if you don't have a dremel tool here are some other options.

You can apply masking tape to the egg then cut it. The tape will help minimize unwanted cracking of the egg.

Or you can go ahead and just cut the egg with a sharp knife. This is a bit tricky and it will take a little practice and a few eggs but you can do it this way. You also might want to leave the opening a bit ragged. It has a good look.

Wash the inside of the egg with warm water, dry it then seal the inside with mod podge or your sealant of choice. We are now ready to start building the diorama inside.
