The Diorama/Terrarium with a waterfall

Frank is a regular contributor to my website. He has made a whole lot of amazing dioramas and you can check them all out right here: Frank's Dioramas

But he has taken diorama making to a new level with this one. It is also a terrarium with succulents.

Let me point out a few things about this project. First off it is in something called "A Wardian Case". Which is a glass enclosure which resembles a stained glass window.

I have written about Wardian cases because they were the original terrarium. Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward created them. And it is quite an interesting story as to how he discovered them and how they actually had an impact on the world. You can read my article about Ward and Wardian Cases right here.

But this project takes it to a new level because yet it is a living terrarium with soil and succulents. And it is also a diorama with a waterfall. So it combines two different types of projects into one. Is this not some terrific fun?

It includes one of the best diorama projects ever: A waterfall. This is always a very popular thing for people to add to a diorama and if you want to make a waterfall like this I have a very popular tutorial on how to do it: How to make a waterfall in a diorama.

People love waterfalls. And he has made it the centerpiece of this diorama. Add some succulents and you have an amazing -and living scene. This is a theme that I have explored in something that I call bio-dioramas. This is where I combine biological elements into a diorama.

Anyway, my thanks go to Frank for sharing this amazing project with us. And if you want to learn Frank's techniques for making dioramas be sure to check out his other projects right here on my website: Frank's Dioramas and diorama making tutorials

This next picture gives us a great look at how this project was made. For the most part the diorama with waterfall was made ahead of time then inserted into the glass case.

This is a beautiful diorama depicting a walking bridge spanning over a waterfall and it has a three dimensional aspect in that it is bursting right out of the shadowbox. The 3d Waterfall Shadowbox Diorama
