Hell in the Hedgerows Diorama

This is a terrific diorama made by Glen and it is all scratch built. He uses some new techniques here including cutting the wood base around it to accentuate the terrain (Height of the hedgrows). And he uses DAS clay to build up the hedgerows, which also lends itself perfectly to leaving tank tracks.

The figures and the diorama are 1/35 scale. I have links to the kits at the bottom of the page.

Glen has made a whole lot of dioramas for us. You can check them out here: Glen's Dioramas

Hell in the Hedgerows Diorama

The base is made out of 90 mm thick polystyrene one piece, but I cut out for the track. Then I use air dry modeling clay by DAS to form the dirt track and fields. If you read up about the Bocage fighting the banks were a lot higher then the track/road with thick hedgerows. So this is what I tried to replicate or achieve.

Kits used Dragon figures Hedgerow Tank Hunters Fallschirmjager Normandy 1944 #6127, U.S. Infantry, 2nd Armoured Division Normandy 1944 #6120. Tamiya Sherman M4 Early Production #35190 all 1/35 scale scratch built base and hedgerows. The hedgerows were made the same way as I have done on my previous work. (Check out The figure on the tank on the gun is from the Tamiya US gun and Mortar Set, is what I had left in my spares box.

I thought I would try a new type of base by putting timber around the Polystyrene, trying to keep to the contours off the land. All I did was painted it with acrylic black artists kids paint as it is cheaper to use this them your model paint, I thinks black also sets it off for the photos too.

No matter where you look at this diorama something is going on

The good thing about sing air drying clay is that you can put imprints in the clay and it is still there when dry see picture below.
